The Terrible Podcast – Interview With Steelers WR Tyler Beiler Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 125 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I start off this Friday the 13th episode talking about the return of Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall to Twitter to give an update on his surgically repaired ACL.

First round draft pick David DeCastro remains unsigned with less than two weeks to go until the Steelers report to training camp so we discuss how Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden is holding that up from happening and the possibilities of DeCastro missing the start of camp as a result.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown recently said in an interview that he would like to return punts again in 2012, so David and I look at the reasons why that is unlikely to happen other than a few spot returns here and there.

The 2012 NFL supplemental draft took place on Thursday and culminated with the Browns drafting former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon in the second round. David and I both agree that this move smells of desperation on the part of the Cleveland front office and give our thoughts on what led to all of this.

During the recording of the show the news breaks about the New Orleans Saints finally reaching a new $100 million deal with quarterback Drew Brees, so we spend a few minutes talking about that before talking about the fraud lawsuit filed by linebacker Larry Foote on Thursday.

In part two of the podcast is my interview with Steelers wide receiver Tyler Beiler, who was signed this past offseason to compete for a depth spot at the position. Beiler went undrafted in 2011 out of Bridgewater College, but did sign with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. After being released prior to the start of the 2011 season, Beiler landed on the practice squad for about a month with the Jacksonville Jaguars. I ask Tyler what he has learned during his time thus far playing for two different teams and how he fits in now with Pittsburgh. We also find out from the speedster where he has seen most of his snaps on offense during the offseason practices and get his thoughts on offensive coordinator Todd Haley, wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery and veteran wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery as well. Make sure you are following Tyler on Twitter at @tylerbeiler and let you know that you heard him on the show today.
