Steelers Sign WR Bert Reed To Practice Squad & Release CB Josh Victorian

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday morning that they had signed tackle Joe Long and guard Justin Cheadle to the practice squad to fill the spots that previously belonged to Toney Clemons and John Malecki.

In addition to those signings, Bob Labriola now reports that former FSU wide receiver Bert Reed has also been signed to the practice squad and to make room for him cornerback Josh Victorian was released.

Reed originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent this year. Reed was released by the Browns prior to the start of the season and then signed to the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the start of the season.

Reed was with the Buccaneers just a few days before he was released and ultimately was signed to the practice squad of the Denver Broncos in early October. That stay lasted just one week.

Reed measured in at his pro day at 5100 and weighed 178 pounds. He reportedly ran a 4.46 40 yard dash during his workout.

eye for an eye i guess, still would have rather kept Gilreath

I know speed is very important, but the amount of undersized players we have compiled is alarming. On a side note, at his pro day Reed also ran an unofficial time in the mid to high 4.3 range

I wonder what will happen once Brown & Cotchery are both healthy.. with Burress on roster that means 5WR’s (+Rainey) on the active roster. If they all dress it will be at the expense of some other position on game day, either that or they release Burress

Dang…Victorian was another guy on the pS that I thought had potential…not sure I know much of any of them on there now.

In reply to Steeltown, id assume they would keep burress and cotchery both because they havent really lined rainey up in the slot that much or thrown to him either ( aka they are completely misuseing rainey)

I agree Victorian looked good in preseason, but with Troy almost healthy there really is no need to carry another DB, i think we currently have 11 DB’s when you count Cromartie-Smith, Van Dyke and Golden

Yea I agree, but that’s what I mean, if Burress is kept on roster it would be at the expense of another position. We came into the season with 4WR’s on the 53 (Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Cotchery) and Rainey (if needed), Now if you add Burress its at the expense of a player at another position.

Bet they release Burress before end of regular season. Plax lost too much quickness & when he was available i heard thats why teams had stopped signing him. So he cant afford that ball which bounced off both his hands last game. Guys like that get sent back to street. He’ll b cut as soon as AB & Cotch ready.
