Steelers Sign WR David Gilreath, WR Derek Moye & CB Isaiah Green To Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that they have signed back wide receivers David Gilreath and Derek Moye to practice squad along with cornerback Isaiah Green. Wide receiver Bert Reed was released to make room.

The team had two open spots on the practice squad after cornerback Josh Victorian was promoted this past Saturday and running back Baron Batch was promoted on Tuesday.

Gilreath had been signed off of waivers from the Steelers a few weeks ago by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was waived by them earlier this week. Moye was a member of the Steelers practice squad up until early laity week when he was released so that Victorian could be signed back.

Hmm.. I like the Gilreath re-signing, but wonder why they’re stocking up on WR’s with 5WR’s already on the active roster +Rainey

I think that it’s b/c the future of Wallace and Buress is unclear. Also, you have to wonder how many years Cotchery has left. It’s like they’re trying to make sure they have WR’s that know the system to be prepared for whatever happens in the off-season.

True about Wallace and Burress.. Cotchery is signed through 2013 and he’s only 30yrs old, he’ll be around next year IMO

As far as practice squad signings go these are pretty good.

I always thought Moye showed promise in college if he could work with a decent quarterback for a while. Hopefully he turns the corner and becomes a decent pro wide receiver for the Steelers. His height (6’4″) would be a big addition to the Steelers if he can develop chemistry with the passing game.

David Gilreath definitely could catch on too with a full offseason with Big Ben. He’s got good speed and he seems to be capable of learning routes. And he has potential as a punt and kick returner as well.

Hopefully the Steelers can hold onto these two for a while and develop them into good backups for the team.

  • Garrett Hunt

Oh wow, idk why but I thought he was at least 34 ha. Good news though, I think he’s valuable to our team

Agreed. Good blocking WR.. and pretty clutch on 3rd downs
