Are you ready for more talk about sexy free agent players that the Pittsburgh Steelers might add this offseason? No, I'm not talking about linebacker Bart Scott, who was released by the New York Jets on Tuesday. The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that they had released wide receiver Steve Breaston, a Woodland Hills graduate, and he is exactly the kind of potentially cheap free agent player that the Steelers would consider signing this offseason to bolster their depth. Breaston was a healthy inactive for the Chiefs in six games down the stretch in 2012, and caught just seven passes Read more [...]
The 2013 NFL combine gets underway later on this week and Southern Illinois outside linebacker Jayson DiManche is one player that did not receive an invite. Adam Caplan came across the Youtube video of the small school prospect, and while his technique is certainly tough judge based on the several camera angles, he is a kid that I feel needs more examination as possible late round selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially if they are unable to draft an outside linebacker early on in the draft. The Salukis play a 3-4 defense and DiManche has experience playing on both sides as you will Read more [...]
I must have missed the two videos of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley that I am passing along to you below, but thanks to a reader passing them along, I guess the timing is perfect to pass them along to the others that might have missed them. Woodley has been doing some videos for the show Guy Code, which is apparently shown on MTV, and in one of the more recent ones that he did he talks about the guy code as it relates football injuries, more specifically, his football injuries. Woodley goes on to say that he tried to tough out his ankle injury that suffered in the first meeting Read more [...]
Another day and now another Pittsburgh Steelers player has made his thoughts known on what he thinks about the comments made by an anonymous player to Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in regard to linebacker LaMarr Woodley being out of shape and awful last season. This time it was fellow linebacker Larry Foote that was asked to chime in on 93.7 The Fan Tuesday morning. Foote was first asked what he thought when he heard the story. "Well it was funny," Foote said. "When I was at the gym yesterday everybody was accusing me of saying it, but it wasn't me. We just laughed about it. Just Read more [...]
The 2013 NFL combine gets underway this week and we should get to hear from Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert once again when he addresses the media and makes his media rounds. David Todd and I discussed on the Monday edition of The Terrible Podcast what questions we would like to see Colbert asked and below are a few that were floating around in my head. Even though Colbert is most likely to be guarded with his responses, it never hurts to ask the right questions just in case he winds up be forthcoming with a few of his responses. How is the recovery of Sean Spence coming Read more [...]
Christopher DiMarino This article continues along with my pre combine look at key positions for the Steelers. For an explanation on how the rankings are calculated please reference the link below: http://www.steelersdepot.com/2013/02/steelers-2013-draft-analysis-inside-linebacker-early-look-at-the-rankings/ The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a unique situation at wide receiver. Mike Wallace is all but gone and there is a slight chance that Jerricho Cotchery could be right behind him thanks to a tough cap year approaching. Wallace underperformed and while Cotchery made plays as required, he wasn't Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark was quite a popular man on Monday as he was also a guest on the Dave Dameshek Football Program. Clark talked about several things related to the team and made it known that he texted linebacker LaMarr Woodley to see if he had read the Sunday report by Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that included a quote from an anonymous player stating that he was out of shape last season and that he played awful. "First thing I did was text him," Clark said. "Honestly, that's the first thing I did. I said 'Did you see it?' and he was like, 'Yeah, I saw it. I'm Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark made the news Monday morning when he said on NFL AM that the team might be fractured and not a close-nit group of players when commenting on the Sunday report by Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that quoted an anonymous player as saying linebacker LaMarr Woodley was out of shape last season and awful. Monday evening Clark was guest on NFL Total Access and was asked about the situation once again. "I think the toughest thing, dealing with our situation, is losing," said Clark. "When you start to lose then these things become problems. Obviously Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers offseason continues on and with the 2013 NFL combine starting this week we will continue on with our breakdown of the free agents as we inch closer towards the start of free agency. Next up on the list of unrestricted free agents is cornerback Keenan Lewis. Player: Keenan Lewis Position: Cornerback Experience: 4 Years Free Agent Status: Unrestricted 2012 Salary Cap Hit: $1,260,000 2012 Season Breakdown: Lewis, a restricted free agent last offseason, finally got a chance to start opposite Ike Taylor in 2012 after William Gay was allowed to leave via free Read more [...]
It was an up and down season for Pittsburgh Steelers rookie tackle Mike Adams, who had his year come crashing to a halt after injuring his ankle in the Week 12 game against the Cleveland Browns, but the Ohio State product is already looking forward to the 2013. Adams saw all of his playing time at right tackle in 2012 thanks to Marcus Gilbert being injured early on in the season, but he remains uncertain which side he will play on in 2013. "Everyone has a preference of where they want to play, Adams said, via steelers.com. "I played left tackle all through college. Whatever side it is I am Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark made an appearance Monday morning on NFL AM to talk about the comments made recently from an unnamed teammate concerning the conditioning last season of linebacker LaMarr Woodley. "My biggest problem with that is not LaMarr, or is not someone's feelings about LaMarr," Clark said. "My problem is now it's public. We were talking about the Ravens earlier, we were talking about the brotherhood, we were talking about the family that they were. We all have arguments with our brothers, sisters, cousins, but that stays in-house. What you talk about then stays there Read more [...]
Season 3, Episode 77 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I talk first about the 2013 NFL combine getting underway later this week and the schedule of events. Georgia linebacker Alec Olgetree was busted for a DUI last weekend so we discuss whether or not he is now completely off the draft board of the Pittsburgh Steelers as a result. ESPN has posted their top 50 available free agents this offseason so we discuss cornerback Keenan Lewis not being included on that list. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman likely thinks that he should be. An unnamed player cracked Read more [...]
The 2013 NFL combine gets underway this week in Indianapolis and thus we will have quite a few numbers to chew on as official measurements and drill results will be posted. While the numbers certainly are fun to dissect and play with, you should be reminded that all of them should be used to back up what you have seen from each and every player on the field. The tape is the end-all, do-all of each and every draft hopeful. Should a player run slower or lift less than expected than you might want to go back and look at the tape to see if you missed something on him. On the flip side, if a player Read more [...]
Let me start of this post by saying that I will be very surprised if the Pittsburgh Steelers add a big name via free agency this offseason. It just isn't something that they normally do and being up against the salary cap this offseason won't help change that this offseason. Even experienced smaller name free agent additions would be quite surprising. With that disclaimer now out of the way, I do think that general manager Kevin Colbert will at least look at players that could contribute immediately if they are bargains, and by bargains I mean cheap. I am sure he does this every offseason, but Read more [...]
I am asked at least once a week via email or Twitter if I have heard anything about how the recovery of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Sean Spence is coming along since he suffered his serious left knee injury last preseason that included a torn ACL, a torn LCL and a dislocated knee cap. All I can tell you at this point is that the reports range from him possibly being ready by the time training camp opens to the Steelers not planning on counting on him much in 2013. Being as the reports vary so much, I don't think that anyone outside of the Steelers organization really knows the answer to that Read more [...]
By Jeremy Hritz The discussion regarding the future of Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison is escalating. This past week, Harrison’s agent, Bill Parise, made it known to the media that his client was not interested in taking a pay cut in order to stay with the Steelers, igniting much discussion of whether or not retaining Harrison for 2013 was in the best interest of the Steelers. In today’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, both Ed Bouchette and Ron Cook both assert that the Steelers should bring Harrison back for another season. What decision should the Steelers make regarding Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley has been criticized heavily for his play the last few seasons and several think that he is spending too much time in the media spotlight than under the lights of a weight training room. Evidently a teammate of Woodley's thinks along those same lines, according to the latest piece by Ron Cook in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "He was awful," one teammate said of Woodley's performance last season. "He tells us he works out, but we didn't see it. He wasn't in shape. That has to be a reason why he was always hurt." Those are some pretty strong words Read more [...]
Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree is an early round draft prospect that has been linked as a possible player that the Pittsburgh Steelers might consider drafting in the upcoming 2013 NFL draft. On Saturday, however, it was reported by Pro Football Talk that Ogletree had been arrested last weekend in Arizona on a DUI charge, according to his agent Pat Dye Jr. and now you have to wonder if the Steelers, and several other teams for that matter, will remove him from their draft board, if they hadn't already. "Last weekend, my client Alec Ogletree was pulled over for speeding and a lane violation Read more [...]
By Jeremy Hritz Dave Bryan wrote an interesting article the other day about the availability of Alabama guard Chance Warmack at number 17 when the Pittsburgh Steelers make their pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. While the Steelers have invested heavily in the offensive line over the last several years, including last year’s selection of David DeCastro, it seems probable that the player that Mike Mayock called the “best player in the draft” will be available to become a member of the black and gold offensive line. While it may seem unlikely that the Steelers would burn another Read more [...]
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was a guest Friday on NFL Total Access and was asked who he thinks are the best cornerbacks in the league besides himself. His answer included a somewhat surprising name from the Pittsburgh Steelers. "Well if Darrelle Revis is playing then I would say it's him, but this year he didn't get a chance to play," started Sherman. "So there were some pretty good performances. Tim Jennings had a great year, but I think it would be out of, surprisingly, Antonio Cromartie, and Keenan Lewis from Pittsburgh doesn't get a lot of respect because he doesn't get a Read more [...]
