Jets Sign Former Steelers G Willie Colon To A One Year Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran offensive lineman Willie Colon earlier in the week, but it didn\’t take him long to find work as Adam Shefter of ESPN reports via Twitter on Friday that the New York Jets have signed Colon to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.

The signing could wind up being a bargain for the Jets if Colon is able to shake the injury bug that has bitten him the last three seasons. Injuries to his Achilles, triceps and knee resulted in the Steelers former fourth-round draft pick to start just 12 games over the course of the last three seasons.

Colon, who made the move from right tackle to left guard last off-season, was due a base salary of $5.5 million with the Steelers in 2013 before being designated a post June 1st cut on Wednesday. Colon\’s agent, Joe Linta, has since claimed that the Steelers never came to him to ask his client to take a pay cut.

Colon was signed to five-year, $29 million contract by the Steelers prior to the 2011 season.

hahahah Sanchez will be killed this season!

  • LouPGH

“if Colon is able to shake the injury bug that has bitten him the last THREE seasons” (emphasis added) being the operative words.

  • TsarPepe

I am sure the Steelers would have been happy to keep him at this price.

  • CrRe

That is what I am talking about!! Sort of sickening!! At the same time, piss on him, let Beachum get reps if something happens to Foster!

  • Dan

Well good for him. He served us well for a while as RT before he took all our money to the injury bench. Now he gets to go home and get a little $ and see if he can stay healthy for 16 games in a row, plus whatever playoff games the Jets play (ha ha).

  • steeltown

Watch him play the entire season without injury…

  • James

haha you know he will! I’m hoping for at least one “butt-sack/fumble” on Sanchez too.

  • Kusko_Ken

I think Willie will look pretty good in green sweatpants.

  • James

Playoffs? ….playoffs? I am happy he was able to catch on somewhere. It’s too bad that he was injured so often the past 3 seasons. Good luck to him!

  • Jefferson_St_Joe

The Steelers should have asked. I don’t know about his fit in the new blocking scheme, but when healthy he is better than Foster.

We knew Rex Ryan likes feet but we didnt know he likes Colons too.

Steelers are having a crappy offseason, but at least they’re not the Jets. The Jets are a complete mess.

Man, I was sure he was going to the Buffalo Bills!! They’ve been collecting our castoff o-linemen now for some time!! (Kraig Urbik, Keith Williams, Chris Scott)(add to that Corbin Bryant and Crezdon Butler on the defensive side)

  • dgh57

Even worse if he makes the Pro Bowl!!!
