Report: Browns Yet To Express Interest In Steelers CB Keenan Lewis

According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer on Twitter, the Cleveland Browns haven\’t yet expressed interest in signing Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in a matter of a few hours.

This disputes an earlier report from over the weekend that stated the Browns indeed had interest in the Steelers 2009 third-round draft pick.

Cleveland has been considered a perfect match for Lewis being as Ray Horton is the Browns new defensive coordinator. Horton was the Steelers defensive backs coach when Lewis drafted out of Oregon State.

The Steelers have cap room available now after restructuring the contract of linebacker LaMarr Woodley. With the free agent market continuing to flood at the cornerback position, there is still a chance that the Steelers could re-sign Lewis at the right price.

I think it is still possible the Steelers lock him up.. they restructured Woodley when they did for a reason

  • William Harris

Non-starter. If Ray Horton was still here, Keenan Lewis would be parking cars already.

    /destroyer of talent

He won’t get a great deal, doesn’t have enough experience

Agreed. I don’t think he is going to get more than $3/4 million a year with glut of CBs on the market. Eagles are releasing Nnamdi Asomugha today as well.

While everything went well for Wallace as far as him really being the only WR on the market and especially the only true deep threat. Things haven’t really went well for Lewis, which is good for the Steelers. I don’t think I ever saw so many FA CBs, haha!

I wondered the same thing. Maybe the reason the Browns don’t have a lot of interest is because Horton was here when Lewis was under performing. Maybe he questioned his long term potential while he was here. Browns did sign Paul Kruger too, so at least they depleted some of there cap space. Cleveland might also be in the mix for Jared Cook. Which if I were them I would be more interested in trying to get Cook rather than Lewis. Especially since they already addressed defense in free agency.

I was watching tv today for the first time in a while (no cable in my apartment) and some dumb reporter said that she heard the Steelers didn’t even bother offering Lewis a contract b/c they knew they couldn’t match other teams offers. So I immediately turned that shit off and just listened to music while I ran. Glad to see I haven’t been missing anything without tv.

Wow, maybe not such a dumb reporter after all.
