Steelers Bring Syracuse S Shamarko Thomas, Utah State CB Will Davis & San Diego State G Nic Embernate In For Pre Draft Visits

The Pittsburgh Steelers will continue their hosting of pre draft visitors on Monday as Bob Labriola reports on Twitter that Syracuse safety Shamarko Thomas, Utah State cornerback Will Davis and San Diego State guard Nic Embernate are in town.

Thomas, who measured in at the NFL combine at 5087 and 213 pounds, is a strong safety who registered 263 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles in 48 games at Syracuse. The safety has a linebacker build who plays well in the box.

Davis, who measured in at the combine at 5112 and 186 pounds, recorded 99 tackles in 26 games while at Utah State. During his agility test he posted a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, 1.50 10-yard dash, 2.51 20-yard dash, 4.02 20-yard shuttle, 6.52 three-cone drill, 35 ½-inch vertical jump, 10’7” broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 16 times. Due to his size, Davis might be seen as a 3-4 nickel prospect by the Steelers.

Embernate, a 6036, 304 pound guard prospect, did not receive a combine invite. He started 44 games at right guard at San Diego State and only missed one start in his career came after suffering a concussion.

Is it just me or do the Steelers bring in a lot of highly likely rookie free agents for pre draft visits because I can’t see the guard prospect for instance being anything higher than a 7th rounder at best?

    It’s not just you.

Exactly.. Bryan mentioned Nik wasnt invited to the combine, but I bet the Steelers scouts saw something in him over his college career so they wanted to meet with him.. maybe its his durability maybe something else, but yes, definitely an undrafted prospect

Update: Embernate Bio – In zone schemes he shows the ability to get push at the point of attack and finish blocks and also shows the ability to come off on 2nd level defenders when he is zone combo blocking. Embernate is an outstanding puller that finishes defenders once engaged.

I like Shamarko.. good prospect, he’s short but very fast

Yeah, his pro day numbers were pretty athletic for a G. Many of his numbers were right there with J. Cooper’s combine numbers.

Somebody forgot to post Shamarko’s combine numbers. Now those were ATTRACTIVE minus the talent and potential he bring to table. Shamarko Thomas if drafted by the Steelers, we let him to play as a blitzing safety then he will be the best safety of this class. That’s a promise. I’m just afraid we will play more tampa 2 instead of traditional of letting polamalu/ryan clark roam around.

Shamarko Thomas is the closest thing to Bob Sanders minus the injury history. Now i’d have gave him a 5th round if he kept playing way he did throughout his career at syracuse and then during senior year he changed his tackling fundamentals which help him actually hitting opponent harder and isn’t risking his body as much so because of the intangibles Shamarko has, i’d say a meddle between 2nd and 3rd by he should be there for us in 3rd.

Yep.. this is exactly the kind of player that I hope is signed as an undrafted and brought in to compete.. with the current depth at the position he could possibly make some noise as a backup /project player …… just never know sometimes
