The Terrible Podcast – Talking Guy Whimper, Max Starks, Joe Greene, Ryan Clark, Roster Depth & More Episode

Steelers Podcast

Season 3, Episode 101 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I have plenty to talk about as the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for their first OTA session that will take place in a couple of weeks.

The Steelers signed free agent tackle Guy Whimper since our last show, so we discuss that news along with the news that Max Starks is visiting with the San Diego Chargers this week.

The legendary Joe Greene retired from the Steelers earlier in the week and made some interesting comments to Ed Bouchette afterwards concerning players and one-upmanship attitudes. We discuss those comments along with the comments made by safety Ryan Clark about one-upmanship attitudes on ESPN this week.

The Baltimore Ravens traded for former Steelers seventh-round draft pick A.Q. Shipley on Thursday, so we briefly discuss that before talking about the Steelers depth on defense at both the nose tackle and inside linebacker positions. We disagree with each other and that always makes for a great show.

A few other talking points are of course mixed in along way.

As always, thanks for listening and don\’t forget to call or email with questions or comments and please pass us along to your friends!

wow, great and then funny stuff here guys, especially with the NT discussion towards the end…

(which players from last year that didnt see the field, showed up to rookie camp?)

the last two years have seen H U G E turnover because of a salary dump + 30+ yr old turnovers all in favor of a youth movement and the current $$$ commitment to our veteran core men…the team is not that old because of this, and we must see what kind of players we have that have been waiting…they must now prove themselves…

the tackle position is very thin without Starks…after Gilbert and Adams, you can kick Foster to RT and then what!?

DL and MLB have Qs, but coach can still mix and match the 3-4 with 2-4-5 set with success…so lets see the kids play or not we draft more replacements…

Yes, I concur with alex on this, great stuff here. Fans who seem confused on why the Steelers make some of the moves that they do should give a listen to the podcasts from these guys and they do a good job of explaining the salary cap implications and why sometimes certain moves are made. Good chemistry with these two and hope they keep it up for a long time. Thanks.

Wimpey starts the convo! We have no depth on OL (even with Wimpey)…if Gilbert takes one offensive lineman out in the preseason the Steelers are screwed! What are the Steelers doing? I just don’t know why the Steelers passed on Chris Faulk and Reid Fragel in 6th or 7th rounds?? I understand Vince Williams could potentially be a great late round grab but Justin Brown and Nick Williams? Questionable at best! We needed backup OL…..just venting!

  • Michael Mazanowski

If Mike Wallace would have led the Steelers to a SB victory against the Packers he would be held to higher esteem by the Steeler community. BUT he dropped a few passes late in the game…ultimately he didn’t come through…. I cussed a lot and injured my foot by kicking things watching that SB! I wanted a Holmes moment…instead we ended up with a Wallace moment! Ugh! Who cares about Wallace? He had his chance at a SB victory and now he’s with the Dolphins where he will never win a SB! Sucker!

  • Michael Mazanowski

Shipley and Urbik…yeah both are doing ok in NFL! Imagine that!

  • HereComesTheCollapse

Right there with you on that one Michael, better off without him at this point. We need receivers that are ‘clutch’ receivers, not just speed demons.
