Report: Steelers TE Matt Spaeth Carted Off Field With Unspecified Injury

According to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Twitter, tight end Matt Spaeth was carted off the practice field Wednesday with some sort of injury. Kaboly says he didn\’t see how the injury occured and didnt specify the nature of it. Spaeth had just returned to practice recently after having his right knee drained of fluid last week.

The Steelers signed Spaeth during the offseason after he spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears. The Minnesota product was originally drafted by the Steelers in the third-round of the 2007 NFL Draft and he played his first four seasons in the league with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers brought Spaeth back in order to help shore up the run blocking this season as he is regarded as one of the best run blocking tight ends in the league.

The Steelers are already without tight ends Heath Miller and David Johnson as both remain on the Active PUP list while they continue to rehab knee injuries suffered last season.

As of right now, second-year tight end David Paulson is the only healthy tight end on the roster with game experience.

We will update you when more is known about Spaeth\’s injury.

  • David Heverly

    Second chance for Saunders?

  • Jeff

He’d be worthless. He’s already suspended for the first 8 games of the season. He had his 2nd chance.

  • Dorkewicz

I believe he’s suspended for the first 8 games of the season so he won’t do us much good honestly :/

Speechless I am, and that is not a easy task to ask of me. I knew, not speculated, that our success for two thousand thirteen, is dependent on health. We have no depth(product of re- doing current contrats, aka moving money. Gey used to it , it wont be the lat time, and temper your expectations for 2013 guys, our depth is thin.

  • Henry

Worst position to have an injury right now.

  • steeltown

You have to be @%#ing kidding me!

  • MP34

This seems to open the door for David Johnson… well, if his knee will allow him to walk over to open it?

  • sean mcmartin

I think stokley might still be available???

  • Mike.H

    ” They’re dropping like flies “…

  • Ahmad

Well depending on the severity of the injury, Jamie McCoy might have secured a roster spot. Anyway, time to see what Paulson can do full time with the ones.

  • Josh Gustad

I think Heath will be back sooner than people think. Other than Paulson’s blocking, I think he will be fine as the starter until either Heath and/or Matt come back.

  • Shannon Stephenson

That is what I said at the start of training camp and that was our season will be based on the health of our team. We still do not have major injuries to major players but we need to hope this isn’t serious

  • Steeler Wheeler

Was it like, in the front seat of the cart while shaking his arm or was he lying down in agony with a trainer and gruesome looks on everyone’s faces??????

  • Matt Searls

    time for paulson to shine

  • Doni609

    WTF; who cares?
