Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey Says His Knee Rehab Is Already Ahead Of Schedule

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey had his 2013 season come to an end after just eight offensive plays, but the former first-round draft pick said in a recent interview on that his rehab is going well after having surgery to repair a torn MCL and ACL in his right knee.

“They’re telling me I’m ahead of schedule, but they have to tell me sometimes to crank it down, you know we’ve got a long time for you to get all the way back,” said Pouncey.

Pouncey said he’s back attending offensive line meetings again and that he plans on being on the sidelines this coming Sunday for the game against the Baltimore Ravens. It will be his first time doing so since suffering his injury.

“It’s harder to watch it when you’re at home and I think I do more screaming than anything when I’m mad at myself that I cant be out there helping the guys,” said Pouncey.

In an effort to keep a positive mindset moving forward, Pouncey has not and will not watch the replay of his injury, according to Missi Matthews. I bet guard David DeCastro never wants to see it again, either.

There’s no need for Pouncey to rush things. He’s got plenty of time to heal and rehab. Just take it easy and get ready for next year.

Happy to hear this good news. Hope he takes his time and doesn’t rush the healing process because the team needs him back at 100% next season.

Have to wonder how the season would have gone with Pouncey in the middle of the line since the Steelers were moving the ball well that opening series.

Though I hope the Steelers find a way to keep C/G Velasco around after this year. He’s a solid lineman and we need that on this team.

We need to hold onto Velasco, no doubt, he’s an intelligent seasoned veteran and he can play C and OG

No rush big fella, take your time we are playing for next year anyway. There is nothing to be gained by rushing back only to blow your knee out again. Just stay away from Decastro he is a good player but man was that stupid.

  • James Kling

Yeah, I like an IOL of Pouncey, Velasco, and DeCastro in some batting order better than an IOL with Foster. Foster should be our first OG backup.

I agree but we still need to replace both starters at tackle by next year unless the earth starts to spin backwards and they actually become decent…. which is not likely.

Pouncey is the only O lineman on the team with the foot speed based on his 40 and shuttle times to play LT – if Velasco can show to be a good center Pouncey may make an interesting move to LT

  • Dr. Doom

Would not happen its not just foot speed, Pouncey weighs 304 pounds. Since he would be on the small side for a left tackle he would have to have superior blocking and the centers job responsibility is completely different from a tackle. He could potentially switch to guard. But Velasco is not week to week a starting center. He often takes poor angles, and has very poor agility. Moving Pouncey to tackle would be a horrible decision.

Totally agree. I think we could make due with Gilbert/Adams/Beachum at RT, but LT is a HUGE ???.
