Steelers Place TE David Johnson And T Levi Brown On Injured Reserve

Due to injuries, the Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to make a few roster moves Tuesday.

Tight end David Johnson and tackle Levi Brown were both placed on the injured reserve list after both suffered injuries this past Sunday. Johnson dislocated his wrist early in the game against the New York Jets while Brown injured his triceps during pre-game warm-ups.

Brown had been acquired via a trade with the Arizona Cardinals during the bye week, but never played a down for the Steelers.

To fill the vacant spots on the 53 man roster, the team signed free agent tight end Richard Gordon and promoted cornerback Isaiah Green from the practice squad.

Gordon was originally drafted by Oakland Raiders in sixth round (181st overall) of 2011 NFL Draft and appeared in 27 games for them, starting two of them. He will wear No. 44.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Makes you wonder if the Cards new something about his weakened triceps, given their haste to dump him at all costs.

  • Styxmotors

I could’ve sworn that we’d resign Max Starks now. We almost never use the zone blocking, right? Bring him back, if anything for the humor.

  • steeltown

Ok, now please re-sign Baxter to the PS to fill Isaiah Greens spot

TE Gordon was an above avg in-line blocker coming out of college, not sure how he’s faired since then.

  • Douglas Andrews

Wonder what the commish will do about that because we got duped!

  • Mike Carroll

Get well soon Matt Spaeth! Sorry to see DJ on IR again.

  • Dr. Doom

They couldn’t have known about his triceps, and he was given a full physical before the trade was completed. Just a freak injury, did you see max starks in the pre season he was awful guy whimper awful. If he is willing to play for next to nothing vet minimum I would not mind them taking a peek.

  • Dr. Doom

    lol “” happens

  • Douglas Andrews

I was just hoping we could get our mill back. You know we must have made the injury Gods mad we just have some dumb luck when it comes to injuries.

  • steeltown

Hopefully he has some added motivation moving forward

  • chris ward

The Levi Brown era was short-lived.

  • cencalsteeler

Get well DJ, a great TE in my book.

  • dollardoughtnut

    think we needed another TE

  • cencalsteeler

Gordon should provide a little insight into the Raiders scheming as well. They’re up in 2 weeks.

  • Douglas Andrews

Hey Dave maybe you can explain how the inactive list works. What are the advantages of the inactive list . All i see is a disadvantage like what happened on Sunday after Levi Brown was hurt in warmups. Maybe there aren’t any advantages?

  • Dr. Doom

only cost 545k even if they had the full 1.8 million they started the season with no one who could help will fall into that amount. cross your fingers hope no one major goes down.

  • dollardoughtnut

is it against league rules to start Velasco at center and flank him with 5 TE’s

  • Douglas Andrews

Oh okay i was thinking it cost us about 930k. Either way he’s on IR and we still have to pay him for this year . As far as injuries Spaeth will be back in a few weeks so that helps us at TE and Mike Adams just has to step up now. Fingers crossed for sure!

  • PA2AK

Yeah…the guy was playing a week ago, right? No one is going to anticipate a injury in warmups…though with the current state of injuries in the NFL…maybe get used to that, lol. Afterall, these guys practice what, once a week?!

  • PA2AK

it would be dumb because one of them would be Paulson….any play he is on the field is a dumb play.

  • PA2AK

Does anyone have any info of the conditional picks involved in the Brown trade based on this result?

  • PA2AK

He really hasn’t looked good this year. I’d rather see them Swap Gilbert and Adams. Gilbert has quietly done well according to PFF rankings…for what they’re worth. If I’m not mistaken…Gilbert is better suited for the Left and Adams the Right. Though, Beachum surprised me at LT after the very shaky start. Great mental resolve and a bit of tenacity really swung those battles back into his favor.

  • Tom Savastano

Did Brown have to pass a physical to finalize the trade? I don’t recall..

  • Terrence Phelps

Paulson is beyond terrible. I never understood the pick when he was drafted. He is the exact opposite of Heath.

  • PA2AK

Just watching him motion behind the line makes me cringe….all hunched over like a feeble chess-player.

  • PA2AK

    yes, and he did.

  • Tom Savastano

Thanks, just curious.. It was probably the Cardinals team doctor..lol

  • Mike.H

How do you pronounce ” Lemon Law ” in French: According to Google Translate it’s :

    [ Loi de citron ].

  • joed32

The trade was for a conditional draft pick. I don’t think the conditions were met so we get to keep the pick. As someone mentioned his pay was vet min and not 1 mil.

  • Mike.H

Get Max Starks on a strict water diet, put leg warmers on with FLASHDANCE CD… drop 10 lbs and get to Hines field — reclaim his old locker back.

[ he’s 200 lbs heavier than the rook who’s occupying it, so it should be no problem. ]

  • dgh57

All trades can’t be finalized until a physical is taken.

  • joed32

I sure don’t but they usually are based on the player playing a certain number of games, etc.. We should be pretty safe on that front.

  • Terrence Phelps

    LOL!

  • HopalongCassidy

I am not so sure about PFF rankings because when I watch Gilbert play, he looks bad to me. Perhaps he is sort of effective in a bad looking way. I don’ t know but it just doesn’t look very good.

  • PA2AK

I agree. That’s why I say ‘for what they’re worth’. It should only be used as an additive to judge people I think, but they have been fairly accurate. Just another viewpoint in analyzing him. Take the Sunday-want-to-throw-brick-through-tv approach out of it, lol

  • Richard Edlin

Conditional might also mean that it’s a lower draft pick now … the only condition that might be met is that he was active for one game. I really can’t see them sticking with him next year given that he’s now had two seasons out, played poorly in the part-season last year, and is due a big check next year.

  • joed32

New article today, no draft pick so now they’re off the hook.

  • Douglas Andrews

    Great News!
