Three Questions Facing The Steelers Coming Out Of The Bye

The Pittsburgh Steelers get back to work following their bye week as they will prepare to face the New York Jets next Monday. Below are three questions that need to be answered over the course of this next week.

Who is going to play left tackle?

The Steelers traded for Levi Brown last week, but he will not practice with the team until Monday. Being as the team has Tuesday off, that will give him just four practices should he be deemed the new starter. The Steelers could turn to Kelvin Beachum first, however, as he was to be the choice prior to the trade for Brown.

Foster ready?

The pectoral injury suffered by Ramon Foster against the Minnesota Vikings was only a sprain and thankfully will not require surgery. Mike Tomlin said last week that it would be a pain tolerance with Foster moving forward, so we will have to see if he is able to practice this week at all.

Moye or Wheaton?

Rookie wide receiver Markus Wheaton had surgery on his broken pinky finger last week and it could prevent him from practicing this week as a result. Should he miss any time, it could result in Derek Moye being active as the fourth receiver against the Jets.

One more question to add…Will Cortez Allen’s play return to the level of last season?

  • Mike Carroll

I think the door is open for other changes to be made this week especially on defense.

    Will Ryan Clark reappear?

  • James Kling

    4. Can we get a takeaway?
    5. Can Sanders ever get on the same page with Ben?

  • Chad H

    How will they use Moye?
There has to be a way to use his size. With Miller back two big guys on the field there has to be a match up we can abuse.

This offense seems to do the opposite. They don’t really look at match-ups…or at least haven’t been successful with them. Seem to have a plan regardless of who they play. No wrinkles specifically designed around the opposing defense when considering our assets/liabilities on offense. I guess the same can be said for the Defense in the past couple years.

  • How about “Who is going to start tackling”? They are like second or third in the league in missed tackles, and that is killing them on defense.

  • Bilgewater D

Yes. He hasn’t gotten on the field enough in live action in pre-season or regular season.

Let him get his sea legs and you’ll see some positive plays.

The Steelers-Jets game is Sunday at 1PM.

Hope so he still havent showed he can play against tough competition starting cb coming from the citidal?

  • Riverstko

This sunday start Brown LT Beachum at LG give Foster a rest he is injuried. Use Moye more his size is a positive for Ben. Even when Wheaton comes back use all five WRs.

I agree that there has to be a place for Moye. He does add a dimension with his size and he’s proven he can catch. I say give the kid a chance.

I think Moye is going to earn a spot this week. I like his effort he showed in pre-season
