Steelers Waive CB Isaiah Green To Make Room For CB DeMarcus Van Dyke

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now officially announced the signing of cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke and with that we now know the corresponding roster move.

Waived on Tuesday to make room for Van Dyke on the 53 man roster was cornerback Isaiah Green.

Green has been bounced back and forth between the roster and the practice squad a few times this season and odds are he will be signed back to the practice squad on Wednesday once he clears waivers.

If indeed that winds up happening, cornerback Devin Smith could very well be released from the practice squad.

For now, cornerback Curtis Brown remains on the 53 man roster despite being inactive for the last several games. It was announced last week that the third-year cornerback is currently dealing with some personal issues, so we will have to wait and see if he returns to practice Wednesday.

I mentioned on the last post that releasing Green from the 53man doesn’t make much sense being that he is the only other CB not named Cortez and WillieG that can seemingly play on defense… Im sure he’ll be resigned to the PS but we need guys that can play in the defensive secondary on the 53man right now

Side note: How come George Winn still hasn’t been added the PS list

You will need to email the Steelers site. I have nothing to do with that.

    Just curious

Can they place C. Brown on the IR Non Football Related list? They may need his spot if Spence is deemed healthy enough for the 53…or they could release Gordon…Spaeth would certainly be welcomed back asap as well.

I am glad to have DMV back. He has both size and speed and Woodson was quite high on him before he got his hammy injured in camp. I think he is punt return capable as well. Hopefully, this is the first glimmer of good news for our secondary.

Yea.. I haven’t heard as much about Spence or Spaeth as I thought I would by week 10

  • Eric

I noticed the same thing. I wonder if the physical is the issue holding things up. A pure guess only.

  • Chris Wilkes

I think the key here is that Green only seems capable of playing on the defense.

  • Eric

I would agree that Curtis Brown is getting more time to deal with his personal issues before Spence returns. One of the 14 tight ends will depart when Spaeth is back.

Second that! Van Dyke played 14 games (started 4) his rookie season at Oakland. I’m a huge Rod Woodson fan so if trained and coached him in Oakland, that is a plus. Although, he does need some more work. Hope it works out well for Van Dyke.

  • Shea Fahr

    HA! 14 TE’s….

  • treeher

I’m looking to hear about both on Wednesday.

  • They are pretty slow in updating things really slow.

  • I would not get too excited over 14 games in 2011 he made 11 tackles, he does not like contact. But you can not teach that kind of speed

  • gene mann

He has two things you can’t teach is size and speed.

  • Shannon Stephenson

I just do not get it…seems desperate.

  • James Kling

No rhyme or reason. Next week, we’ll flip flop them again.

Revolving door for a special teams player.
The wheels on the bus have come off. Player evaluation starts with the coaching staff period end of story. We need play makers on O, D and ST.
Baxter demonstrated that in the preseason he is gone. We put all our hope on an unproven NT to carry the load and send a guy to AZ that had promise. Zero starting LTs or a backup. Didn’t draft a TE a glaring need with Miller not ready to start the season but the team will be ok with Paulson who can’t block. Seriously we have 7 to 10 guys on our 53 man roster right now that would not be on a roster any where else.
Lash out all you want at me. IMO Mike Tomlin has no clue when it comes to player evaluation. He has to go. This team has been on a decline for 3 years because of who he keeps and who he lets go!

  • Van Dyke is a bum Isaac Green is bird poop back end of roster tackling dummies
