Bears Sign T Joe Long Off Steelers Practice Squad

This is the time of year when teams are likely to poach players off of the practice squads of others and it happened to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

According to the official NFL transaction report, the Chicago Bears have signed tackle Joe Long to their 53 man roster off of the Steelers practice squad.

Long has been on the Steelers practice squad since late last season. He was in training camp this year with the team and played in three preseason games.

The Steelers now have an opening on their practice squad, but it is unknown if they will fill it this week or wait until next week.

    Well that sucks

  • Jon Crissinger

If he ends up in a starting role for Chicago and performs adequately, what does that say about our player evaluations?

  • JohnnyV1

If he were that good, he’d be on the active roster starting ahead of a player like Guy Whimper. Next year, they have 3 OT’s already, and most likely will spend a pretty high draft pick on another one, depending on value when they pick. That’s four and they won’t keep more than that.

Does anyone know why we haven’t brought back Baxter to the PS?

  • HopalongCassidy

    A lot.

  • gene mann

That realy stinks i hope he does not turn out to be anything or i be pissed that we lost him kept Whimper

  • AndyR34

    Um-m-m…we didn’t want him?

  • Superdriller316

I see that. He was productive in the preseason. Didn’t know if he wasn’t picking up the playbook or we needed a spot for a different position. He was Tunch’s camp phenom.

obviously he wasn’t very good.. if you didn’t get to play on our offensive line, as much injury we have had.. if you didn’t get to play then u must not have been that good.. i mean if whimper was able to benefit and get playing time and joe long was then…. he just stay on our squad because of we hopping he turn out as good as his brother. LOL

  • steeltown

That’s sucks, he was young and had good pedigree, he obviously needed some work and experience but I always thought he might end up being a contributor even if for purely depth purposes

  • joed32

    Us and 31 other teams.

  • srdan

that he fits their scheme better

Don’t the Steelers get some sort of compensation when a player is “poached” off the practice squad?
