Report: Steelers Have Visited With Dolphins Free Agent CB Chris Owens

It looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers snuck a free agent visitor in this past week that went unreported.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, Miami Dolphins free agent cornerback Chris Owens was in Pittsburgh this week for a visit.

Owens, who was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of San Jose State, spent his first four seasons in Atlanta until joining the Cleveland Browns last offseason.

After spraining a knee last season, the Browns placed Owens on injured resave and then waived him with an injury settlement, and that’s when the Dolphins wound up claiming him.

Owens’ best fit on the Steelers defense would be as a nickel cornerback. He has recorded three interceptions, 15 passes defensed and three and a half sacks to go along with 184 total tackles in the first 72 games of his career.
