Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Hasn’t Shut Door On Possible James Harrison Return

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert is talking to the press Sunday prior to the NFL owners’ meetings taking place in Orlando, Fla and was asked about the possibility of veteran linebacker James Harrison returning for the upcoming season.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Colbert said he’s never going to close the door on any possibility and especially when it comes to a player such as Harrison.

Harrison, who was released a few weeks ago by the Cincinnati Bengals after just one season with them, has already hinted he’d like to return to the Steelers in 2014.

The Steelers lack depth at the outside linebacker position now that LaMarr Woodley has been released as Chris Carter is left to back up both Jason Worilds and Jarvis Jones. Carter, however, has very limited playing time underneath his belt entering his fourth season and what playing time he has received, he hasn’t been very impressive in.

Harrison might have to stay unemployed for a while, however, as the Steelers will likely want to see how the rest of free agency and the draft go. They’ve already scheduled a visit next week with Buffalo Bills free agent linebacker Arthur Moats. Moats, who is probably best suited to play inside, can also play outside should the need arise.

Should Harrison ultimately be brought back, one would think it would have to be for the minimum.

I hope we end up bringing him in!

No one can hold the edge

    Like Deebo could

    And probably still can!

    The Nation wants him back

Chris carter is a wasted roster spot so that’s a perfect place for a 36 year old OLBer!

james at hus age is still better than Carter

JH’s annual acupuncture bill exceeds the Vet minimum.

He’s done .he was done last yr .we don’t need sentimental players anymore. We need youth on D and lots of speed James is neither

  • Virdin Barzey

One of the biggest no-brainers. He has little to no options so far, we need the depth, he knows the system blindfolded and oh btw, he is pretty good when healthy. Just sign him and get it over with.

This is the one thing that infuriates me about this process and the Steelers. If your interested make him an offer and be done with it before someone like Baltimore or NE comes along and get in the game.

Why the constant dragging of the feet on certain guys that seem so obvious?

  • Dwayne Ferguson

    Come home James.

All those years with his back getting compressed on almost every play while giving up 80 lbs to the Tackle he was battling surely had a lot to do with it. It’s amazing he had the strength to endure. He’s one of my heroes so I hope he can still perform, but he certainly is a lot, lot slower.

It’s time to move on to a new door.

Make no mistake, I would love to see JH return as a Steeler.
I simply am a bit skeptical that he would be willing to return for minimum.

  • tim

    Maybe a little over minimum I bet…
