Saints Waive Former Steelers G Mike Golic Jr.

It looks like the tough times are continuing for guard Mike Golic Jr. as he was waived Monday by the New Orleans Saints.

Golic, who signed less than a month ago with the Saints, originally came into the league as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers last April. He is the son of former NFL defensive linemen and ESPN radio personality Mike Golic.

Despite sticking on the Steelers roster until the final round of cuts last year, Golic, a Notre Dame product, only received 13 snaps of playing time on the offensive line during the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. He was waived two days later.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Any reason to see If he’s improved, with EmberNasty gone? Wallace is our only Guard depth right now, right? Whimper in a pinch? Are we expecting WJohnson to play guard?

I remember reading his tweets last year during camp. He was tweeting all kinds of nonsense about everything except football. You could tell where his head was at.

Good inside info! I was rootin for him cuz he’s Golics kid, but it doesn’t sound like he’s got what it takes.
Too bad they can’t have an XFL team with Rice, Montana’s, and all the other greats kids!

“Abdullah The Butcher” filled in very well during is time playing. He’s proved himself a worthy, serviceable Guard. Not stellar, but a pretty good stop gap player.

From looking at their current team roster on the Steelers website, the guys on their 90-man roster that can play guard would be as follows: Kelvin Beachum, Bryant Browning, David DeCastro, Chris Elkins, Ramon Foster, Chris Hubbard, Wesley Johnson, Emmanuel McCray, David Snow, Cody Wallace, and Guy Whimper. I think they should have pretty good depth at the guard position, even after cuts are made.
