Steelers 2015 Pre Draft Visit Tracker

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now started to schedule 2015 draft prospects for pre draft visits and as usual, we will keep track of them in one separate post for easy reference.

NFL teams are allowed to host 30 non local prospects prior to the 2015 NFL Draft and below is a running list of players that have either confirmed they have visits scheduled, or have already visited. The dates will be filled in as they happen.

If you want to look back at the pre draft visitors from last year, you can see the tracker from 2014 here.

Last year 6 of the visitors were drafted. Keep track of the guys who are expected to go in the later rounds. The lesser lights have a good chance to be picked later because they must have seen some potential in their game. That’s where, if they do their homework, a good draft can eventually become a great draft.

  • steeltown

Love referring back to this Pre-Draft Visit list, chances are good that a handful of these guys will be in camp.

  • Burgh Ball

Is there any way you can update this and leave it near the top? Over the last years – the Steelers have drafted or signed as undrafted free agents 3-5 players off this list each year… Thanks

  • Timothy Rea

Seconding this. Seems like a very good idea. Predraft visits are the best indication of who they are going to draft.

  • Burgh Ball

thanks for reposting this and moving back up – Great list to watch as we get close to draft day

  • Vinhuddle

Glad to see Danielle Hunter and Lorenzo Mauldin on this list. After reading comments on this site and several others I realize I think more of Mauldin then most. Personally I think both would be good selections in the early part (not at #22) of the draft…just my opinion though. Also, 3wks-12 hrs-22 minutes…hurry up draft day and arrive!lol

  • PittsburghSports

Cool! Didn’t know the Steelers dined with Gaines and Holliman too.

  • JesusChristTheGodMan .

I really like Mauldin as well

  • Steelers_DaBus

I hope to see Markus Golden on this list , TE Clive Walford Miami is the best TE in this class ,Sammie Coates is really a good threat , he can be a great WR . i like Lorenzo Mauldin too . i think we should go big around DL/OLB we don’t want small and light OLB like JJ i would like to get Alvin Dupree 6’4” 269 or Owamagbe Odighizuwa

  • PittsburghSports

It was reported they also had dinner/lunch/food with Markus Golden when they were at Missouri Pro Day. Actually reported on this site, so surprised it’s not listed.

  • LucasY59

yep the Rooney’s picked up a big tab on that trip to Louisville

  • Jeff Anoble

Curious to see if Marcus Peters makes a trip to Pittsburgh. If not….Also like potential of Holliman and the other Safety from Louisville, who is not scheduled for a visit James Sample.

  • Prince Ghartey

I hope ifo ekpre comes PLEASE COME

  • StrengthOfVictory

Is there any way you (or someone at Steelers Depot) can do a feature examining how many players taken in the top 3-5 rounds by the Steelers (say, going back to 2003) had a combine meeting, had their pro day attended, had dinner with coaches, and/or had a pre-draft visit?

  • CodeNameJerk

Good chance their first round pick is listed there somewhere. Which one is it?

  • William Bigelow

I believe it was reported that Peters visited this past Thursday

  • Chad

Interesting. Thanks for adding the link to 2014, gives us some perspective.

  • Shannon Stephenson

No question where the emphasis is in this draft….a lot of CB’s and OLB’s.

  • Toddy Bravo

He may not be in the list of prospect visits (yet). The only two 1st rounders who have already visited are Marcus Peters and TJ Clemmings. The Pro Day dinners have 4-5 potential 1st rounders though.

As to which one…your guess is as good as mine. I like Dupree, Johnson and Peters (if they’re comfortable that he’ll keeps his head on straight). We don’t need a top WR, but it would be pretty hard to dislike Parker as well. I don’t know who we take in the 1st, but I bet it’s an OLB/DE in the 2nd.

  • LucasY59

    and TE

  • LucasY59

The list is 1/2 full (or empty depending on how you look at it)

there are 2 or 3 I would really like to see them draft (Peters, Carter, James) a few more I like, but am not sure about (Orchard, Harold, and Valles) and some late or UDFA guys that could be good (Clear, Uzomah (both as future Spaeth type TE’s) and maybe Spain if Munch likes him) since the visits are usually a good indicator of who they will pick I am pretty happy right now.

The Tomlin dinner dates are even better (the only one I don’t like is Holliman, Garcia isnt exciting but again if Munch thinks he will be good and as a late or UDFA type of guy I’d be good with it)

  • Matt Manzo

I think Gaines could be this years Bashad Breeland! He’s got skills and seems to have good instincts.
I honestly like the mid round CBs more than the 1st round guys!

  • blackandgoldBullion

Oh how I wish they had an extra pick say, around the 3rd round. And I notice Xavier Cooler is visiting today. Interesting. I wish I could hear and see these interviews or find out how they went.

  • Heather Danis

I was actually surprised by Xavier Cooper showing up on the visit list as he has short arms and can’t hold a double-team to save his life. I’m not sure they’re kicking his tires to see if they can change that or if they’re considering him for a mid-round option to help them in a 4/3 front so they get pressure on the QB without having to use another 3/4 DE or OLB to try to do it.

  • Heather Danis

I think Munch likes Spain and Garcia since he worked Spain out and helped with the visit on Garcia. As for Carter, I’m not seeing it unless they’re looking at him as a Safety prospect in the 4th or 5th. I completely agree with you on Holliman; while a ballhawk, he is averse to contact. I’m not found of Harold and Valles either but think Orchard could be someone they look at if he falls to them in the 3rd or they want to drop back a bit in the 2nd to take him. I don’t think they’ll reach for him fro 56 though.

  • Heather Danis

I think that it would have to be an investment pick as they’d want to see how he plays after his knee is rehabbed. I think he’ll still be there in the 4th, or perhaps even the 5th, if teams aren’t willing to pick someone who will sit most or all of 2015 because he won’t have training camp or pre-season opportunities most likely given his listed rehab schedule to date. I’d give up a 4th next year in the early part of this year’s 5th round to take him as an extra pick and let time tell us what we got for our investment.

  • Heather Danis

If Mauldin gets invited for a visit, I wouldn’t think they would consider taking him until the 5th. He’s slower for a 3/4 OLB prospect and has had limited production. That, to me, makes him a 2-3 year project.

  • blackandgoldBullion

Good thinking. And if the OLBs can’t get pressure perhaps they can put Timmons, Shazier and Vinny Williams on the field at the same time. I would give it a shot

  • Brian K

They drafted 6 players that were reported visits last year. 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th round guys.

  • Heather Danis

Well, like Butler said when he took over as DC, ‘we usually play some sort of hybrid 4/3 front in the sub-package anyway with 2 OLBs and 2 DEs all pushing towards the QB at once.’ The difference is, I think, that 3/4 OLBs can be handled by 1 blocker w/ a TE most times, and sometimes the DEs too (like Cam Thomas) so the better rushers get the double-teams thus pressure is slowed just enough for a quick release pass to get off. If we use a true 4/3 front with 3 d-linemen and an OLB who can truly rush the passer, we may be able to get more pressure up front in the hybrid. More often than not 3/4 NTs are awesome run stoppers but can’t rush the passer with much consistency as opposed to a good 4/3 DT who can rush the passer but has known limitations against the run in a 3/4 alignment. Just a guess for sure….

  • Bill Sechrengost

Surprised only one RB on the entire list. I know they talked to David Cobb and T J Yeldon at Combine, but those are the only names I’ve heard.

  • Heather Danis

I think they talked to a number of RBs at the Combine and at Pro Days, to include David Johnson and Jeremy Langford. They still have several visits to go so we may see another show up in the next week or so before they start to solidify their draft board.

  • this what the steelers will do pass on marcus peters an the ravens get him an we get a guy that wont contribute till years later an we will regret it an dave will call us yinzers

  • John21

Dave -Gerry Dulac says they are REALLY HIGH on Eric Rowe–like 1st round high! Believe it?

  • LucasY59

I think Carter is almost exactly what the Steelers look for in a CB decent size physical and comfortable playing zone he could be a good safety also

  • PittsburghSports

Doesn’t he only talk about golf?

  • Kenneth Wilt

Can you divide these by projected round range?

  • LucasY59

23 official visits (22 since Clemmings doesn’t count against the 30) so there are 8 more possible (7 after Emmanuel, James doesn’t count against the 30 either) 4 (if you count the other possible’s)

Who isn’t on the list that you think should be???

I am surprised there aren’t more RB’s and Safeties

  • LucasY59

I would think that Amos would be a visit also (if he doesn’t count against the 30)

I would also think they would talk to the Washington guys (Kikaha and Shelton)

maybe Carter and Anderson from Stanford also

  • PittsburghSports

C’mon, man. You gotta do a little bit of homework.

  • LucasY59

*missed that Carter had a visit

  • Kenneth Wilt

Once I get past the first 2 or 3 rounds, I am pretty much out of my “projection” list. I can project the others, but after that….I would have problems.

  • PittsburghSports

I’d post some links of value boards that I follow, but they’d just get held up and probably never approved.

  • LucasY59

its kinda just a guess after 3 rds anyway

  • The GreekGeek

I’m hoping they bring in IFO, B. Jones (CB), Craig Mager and OWA at minimum. Maybe Karlos Williams, Robinson, Abdullah, or another late round RB.

  • LucasY59

only two more of the 30 visits available now, and I think they have to be tomorrow or Friday.

  • The GreekGeek

    I didn’t keep track. Didn’t realize they only had 2 left. I guess we’ll see tomorrow…

  • The GreekGeek

On a side note, I don’t know why they don’t bring in all the viable candidates from all the in state schools they can since they don’t count. Anybody from Pitt or PSU that might get drafted… I don’t see a ton of guys mentioned. I think Clemmings, James (maybe), not sure if they had Amos… Plus there are a couple of other decent schools to check out I guess.. Villanova, and some lower level schools could have some talent. I guess they only have so many scouts. Maybe they could hire some of the Steelersdepot crew…

  • LucasY59

according to Dave’s latest post they are done with visits and will have a Press Conference on Monday

  • Doug Sawyer

using the list as a template …it would seem Matt Jones has a good shot at being picked in the 5th or 6th …only RB on the list

  • Doug Sawyer

Peters and Orchard are strong bets …but clearly they could go KJ over Peters

  • Superdriller316

Kaboly said on David Todd’s show last night that the Steelers are very high on Jesse James. He said that James has made 3 trips to the South Side.

  • The Notorious TOM

Kinda hoping Vince told the steelers everything they need to know about his brother Karlos.
