Report: Roethlisberger Believed To Only Have Sprain

Though he was miraculously able to return to last night’s game, Ben Roethlisberger was playing in serious pain. But a report indicates Roethlisberger has avoided a serious injury, and the team is hopeful he just has a sprained AC joint. The report was issued by NFL Network’s Albert Breer and Ian Rapoport.

Roethlisberger was injured in the third quarter of last night’s 18-16 victory, driven into the ground by linebacker Vontaze Burfict. He came back for the final series, leading the Steelers to their game-winning drive.

“I knew he was going to take me down and it was one of those quarterback, not-so-friendly type of hits. I tried to twist and I couldn’t twist enough and he landed on my shoulder,” Ben would explain to reporters after the game.

Mike Tomlin described how he and Roethlisbegrer communicated to put him back in.

“It was dire. Ben and I have been together nine years. We kind of looked at each other and said, now or never.”

Though Roethlisberger’s status is still uncertain for Sunday against the Denver Broncos, the initial indication is that he’ll be able to play. And you know if there is anyone who can do it, it’s #7.
