Steelers Place LB Steven Johnson On IR, Re-Sign LB L.J. Fort

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Steven Johnson suffered a broken ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys and as expected, his season is now over.

The Steelers announced Tuesday morning that Johnson has been placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list as a result of his injury. To fill his spot on the 53-man roster, linebacker L.J. Fort was re-signed.

Fort had been waived on Saturday in order to make room for tight end Ladarius Green, who was activated from the team’s Reserve/PUP list.

Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers during the offseason. The reserve linebacker led the Steelers in special teams tackles prior to being injured. The Kansas product spent his first three years in the league with the Denver Broncos after being signed as an undrafted free agent. In 2015, he played for the Tennessee Titans.

Fort will likely fill Johnson’s spot on special teams moving forward.

I wonder if he can rush the passer.

    The injury carousel continues

Do u think 3-4 defense obsolete

    Huge loss on ST

very bad management of injuries on this team…
sounds crazy but the injury situation is as bad as the way the HC speaks about them

    I don’t think it’s obsolete. I like the 3-4 better than the 4-3 because of it’s versatility.
But it is ESSENTIAL that you have pass rushers at the OLB position. It is as important as having a franchise quarterback. You have 4 LBs on the field they have to be your best players.
Look at our history, Lloyld and Greene. Porter and Gildeon, Harrison and Woodley. Even Clark Haagans and Jason Worilds are better than anyone we have now.
Even look at our ILBs. Kirkland and Brown. Timmons and Farrior and Foote.
Bottom line, I don’t think it’s obsolete if you dedicate to acquiring the personnel to make it successful

thanks for the input as i do too favor a 3-4 or 4-3, you think maybe we should draft 2 or 3 pass rushers and sign an above average LB in free agency to fix problem

  • Kevin artis

Harrison and Jarvis Jones will be gone next year. That leaves, Dupree, Moats and Chickillo. We definitely need to draft at least 2 and sign an above average free agent pass rusher. Problem pass rushers at OLB are expensive and we have to pay Brown (wr) and possibly franchise Bell.
But we might have to make some hard decisions if we want to get this defense back on track.
Meaning letting Bell walk if we can signed a “Von Miller, Dee Ford, Alex Mack” type player.

  • Steelers12

no you can play with contracts and create room while keeping Bell and ain’t Alex Mack a center?

  • Kevin artis

My fault I meant the OLB from Oakland.

  • Steelers12

    o ok Khalil Mack
