Markus Wheaton Officially Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Some housekeeping purposes and yes, I realize this is for a guy who may not be a Pittsburgh Steeler in a few months. Despite being placed on injured reserve three weeks ago, Markus Wheaton officially underwent shoulder surgery today. He posted a photo of him at home, in a black sling, on his Instagram account.

Wheaton dealt with a nagging shoulder injury all season, limiting him to just three games and four receptions. Those catches went for 51 yards, including a 30 yard score against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Set to be an unrestricted free agent after the season, Wheaton caught 107 balls for over 1500 yards and eight touchdowns in his four year career with the Steelers. But given how this year went, playing time scarce and marred by injury, his offseason market figures to be relatively cool.

It’s unclear how long his recovery will be though it’s safe to assume it will take several months.

He’s the perfect buy-low candidate for any team, perhaps with a one year prove-it deal to rebuild the market value he lost after this season.
