Report: Patriots WR Chris Hogan To Miss Game Against Steelers With Shoulder Injury

The New England Patriots figure to be without a few key defensive players later today when they play the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field and according to a Sunday morning report, they’ll likely be without one of their top wide receivers as well.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan is not expected to play Sunday afternoon against the Steelers because of a shoulder injury. Hogan ended the week as questionable on the Patriots Friday injury report after being limited in practice all week.

In last year’s AFC Championship game against the Steelers, Hogan had 9 receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns. With Hogan out, that leaves Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola as the Patriots top two wide receivers. Their wide receiver depth chart is rounded out by Phillip Dorsett, Kenny Britt and Matthew Slater. Britt, by the way, signed with the Patriots this past week.

On Sunday, the Patriots downgraded linebacker Kyle Van Noy and defensive back Brandon King from questionable to out on their injury report. On Friday, the Patriots listed defensive lineman Alan Branch as out for the Sunday game against the Steelers.

We have a massive advantage on the offensive side of the ball cmon Steelers let’s get this W

  • Charles Haines

Pats run D is giving up 5 yds/attempt…..any chance Steelers go 80-90’s Nebraska and run Bell/Connor 40 times? Seems like that would be a pretty good game plan.

  • Jaybird

I was wondering why the Pats signed that garbage -Britt. Now I know why.

  • Darth Blount 47

    WOW.

I had some feelings that we’d get a surprise or two today. The Pats blogs were all very pessimistic about some of their players actually playing. Local writers were letting it leak that this team is BANGED UP. Miami may have done us more favors than we had thought!

I still don’t think we are done with the inactives for them. I think expect one more D starter/player to be down.

This news combined with the morning reports about Haden playing, is encouraging news for Steeler Nation.

I almost get the weird vibe that New England is setting their sights further down the road. However, as has been stated before…. we will NOT be letting our guards down and falling for the TRAP.

  • Jaybird

I’d love to see Flowers out also. Your right, they are incredible banged up right now.

  • Darth Blount 47

As a Husker fan, Ben running the option successfully brings a real twinkle to my eye.

  • Darth Blount 47

    Flowers down would be HUGE.

  • Mister Wirez

    That’s when they’re all playing. They’re missing 5 guy’s from 2 week’s ago…

    Bell is licking chops.

  • Darth Blount 47

Just a little trash-pickin’ on a Friday night in Boston.

  • Jaybird

I am not one of these guys who says” I want to beat them at full strength” . All is fair in love, war, and football. I enjoy every advantage we can get against all opponents. I’m hoping to see a few more Pats inactive by game time as well.

  • Jaybird

    Lol

  • nutty32

Excuse narratives all tee’d up for Boston losers.

  • Michael Putman

Too bad that advantage doesn’t extend to coaching. The quality of players have never been the issue, its the decision making and play calling that usually screw us.

This is a game that the Steelers need to be AGGRESSIVE throughout. Not STUPID, but AGGRESSIVE. We need TD’s, not field goals. Unless our defense shows that they can stop the Pats* offense, we need to be going for it on 4th and short situations on the good side of the 50. We need to make calculated decisions and have a plan in place. We can’t be burning timeouts because we are confused 3 minutes into the game. We need everyone focused and playing good ball.

We have the talent on offense to outscore the Pats*, we just need the dedication, the resolve, the intelligence and playcalling to make that come to fruition.

  • Michael Putman

Yea, screw that! I just want to win. I don’t care if we beat their A team or their practice squad… a win is a win!

  • Mister Wirez

Agreed… They brag about being 8-2 against the Steelers, but just last year we had Landry Jones in for the regular season game. Then, in the AFC-CG we were without Bell & Bryant.

Nobody up in Bahstahn complains about beating injury depleted Steelers teams.

TODAY’S OUR DAY to RAM IT DOWN THEIR THROATS. GO Steelers!

  • DoctorNoah

Let’s be honest. Anything Hogan can do, any receiver can do. He didn’t torch us because of skill, he torched us because of scheme and poor safety play.

  • Mister Wirez

Britt isn’t a particularly good route runner and drops 50% of his passes.

  • SkoolHouseRoxx

Breaking News: Marvin Lewis plans to leave Bengals after the season.

  • StolenUpVotes

We went all scatter brain on the back end that game…..

  • StolenUpVotes

    Shame

  • pittfan

+100. An L is an L. Everyone has injuries and there are no asteriks in the W/L column. We have our booboos too.

  • pittfan

He’s a straight line speed guy.

  • pittfan

Butler and Gilmore are dinged up too. LP all week. Keep your fingers crossed. Losing one of them would be HUGE on steroids.

  • StolenUpVotes

This is one banged up team………this has to be the time we get them!

  • Sam Clonch

    Niiiiice….it’s Cooks and Gronk.

  • Sam Clonch

They beat us once last year without Cam and Bell. Another time without Ben. Wins a win…

  • Grant Humphrey

Good now he can’t kill us like he did in the AFCCG lol.

  • Rocksolid20

If Hogan was our biggest fear , we were already beat .

  • Grant Humphrey

Butler doesn’t have a designation for this game. Gilmore being out would be big too.

  • Grant Humphrey

Despite having Landry for that game last year we stayed in that game. Having the whole offense healthy is going to be very good.

  • pittfan

Gronk, Amendola, Cooks is deep ball only.

  • pittfan

He was on their list earlier this week but you’re right, he’s not listed now. Oh well.

  • BurghBoy412

I suspect the no Alan Branch excuse will be the most convenient and used reason for why Bell goes over 200yds in this game.

  • EdJHJr

The hulkster won’t be runnin wild on you today

  • Shannon Stephenson

Dont worry Steeler faithful…Britt will torch us like Hogan did last year.

  • #7

    You sound like Mark Schleareth

  • #7

    That’s a shame…

  • EdJHJr

Uh. If he wasn’t playing the last game

  • EdJHJr

This game can be won by the d line
