Steelers selected OLB Thaddeus Gibson with the 116th Selection overall and the 18th Pick in the 4th round of 2010 NFL Draft. Gibson is another tweener type that projects as an outside linebacker in the Steelers 3-4 defense. Like most tweeners, Gibson is a great athlete with a solid, muscular build. Gibson is 6'2", 243 lbs. with 33 inch arms and a 8 3/4 inch hand size. He benched 225 32 times at the combine and ran a 4.71 40 time as well. A few people are asking about the combine stats for both Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders. Seems several are trying to compare the two which is wrong to do. I aim to please so here are the combine results I have on both below. Sanders is a bit smaller as you can see and as good of leaper as he is, Wallace still out leaped him. Sanders will be groomed as a slot guy, a number 3 receiver so to speak. This year though expect him to be #5 or #6 on the depth chart for the start of the season. Day one was excellent in my opinion for the Steelers when they drafted Florida offensive linemen Maurkice Pouncey. Pouncey fit a need can contribute right away more than likely and is versatile. Day 2 of the draft in my opinion was not as fruitful. They started with talk that the Steelers wanted to move up in round 2. Smoke screen? Perhaps, but one really never knows for sure. Steelers drafted WR Emmanuel Sanders with the 82nd Selection 18th Pick in the 3rd Round Of 2010 NFL Draft. Sanders is considered an undersized receiver, but not afraid of going over the middle. He is quick off the snap and has great vertical speed. Sloppy with his route running as most young small school receivers are and likes to run before catching the ball which results in drops. The Steelers selected outside linebacker Jason Worilds in the second round Of 2010 NFL Draft. Worlids is an athletic player out of Virginia Tech and was named second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference, registering 49 tackles, 11 for losses, 4 1/2 sacks, one forced fumble and 32 quarterback hurries. Worilds does not seem fit to play as a down linemen and is questionable in pass coverage. OK, I will make this rant short and sweet. When Trent Williams was announced as the Redskins #4 pick of the draft by Commissioner Roger Goodell, he was announced as Trent "Silverback" Williams. According to Rick Maese of the Washington Post, this was a joke the Commissioner was in on. Now that day one is in the books and the Steelers addressed the offensive line in round one with the selection of Maurkice Pouncey from Florida. It is time to direct the attention to the Steelers 2nd round pick. In my mock draft, I had Kareem Jackson. The Steelers drafted center Maurkice Pouncey from the University of Florida with the 18th pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. Pouncey is 6'4" and weighs 304 lbs. His arm length is 32 1/2 inches and he has a hand size of 10 inches. Pouncey is versatile enough to play guard as well and might start on the right side until center Justin Hartwig is gone. Here we are, draft day 2010, a day that could live in infamy in Steelers history. Drama? Yes, we have drama. Rumor mongering? Sure and then some. It is draft day after all and only one day after Ben Roethlisberger was handed down a 6 game suspension from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Following the suspension that was handed down by Roger Goodell to Ben Roethlisberger, Art Rooney II met with the media via conference call to answer a few questions. You can listen to the whole call here. Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune reports that a Raiders employee confirmed the Raiders indeed contacted the Steelers about suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger but didn't make an offer to them. The employee added the Raiders are unwilling to trade their #8 overall pick for Roethlisberger and that the Steelers aren't interested in throwing in their #18 pick to sweeten the deal. One day after acquiring quarterback Byron Leftwich in a trade with Tampa Bay, the Steelers extended his current contract. Leftwich had one year left on the two year contract he signed last year with the Buccaneers and the Steelers added one more year to the contract on Wednesday. This means Leftwich is now signed through the 2011 season. Leftwich was present at the Steelers South Side facility this morning, went through his physical evaluation and signed his new contract.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell notified Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger that he must undergo comprehensive behavioral evaluation and that he has been suspended for six games. Goodell will review Roethlisberger's progress prior to the start of the season and will consider reducing the suspension to 4 games. Failure to cooperate could lead to longer suspension for Roethlisberger.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that the Steelers are indeed actively talking to teams about trying to get a top 10 pick for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the eve of the 2010 NFL draft. Schefter mentioned Oakland, Buffalo and Seattle as teams that are interested in dealing for the soon to be suspended quarterback. After the Tuesday trade for Buccaneers quarterback and former Steeler #2 signal caller, Byron Leftwich, the Steelers now have four quarterbacks currently on the roster.

Yesterday the Steelers sent a 7th round pick to the Buccaneers for our old friend Byron Leftwich. Was it a good deal? Sure it was as you know what you are getting in Leftwich and the Steelers basically are giving back a 7th round compensatory pick they received when they lost him via free agency after the 2008 season so to speak. Chris Mortensen is reporting that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for four to six games on Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. I have heard less, but can not reveal my sources. Regardless, we should know very soon. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is looking forward to second year receiver Mike Wallace taking the next step and replacing Santonio Holmes as their starting split end. Another familiar face is coming back to Pittsburgh as the Steelers traded one of their two 7th round draft picks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for quarterback Byron Leftwich. The 7th round pick was18th pick of round 7 and the 255th pick of the draft. The trade now leaves the Steelers with 10 draft picks and another trade could indeed happen by or on Thursday.
