Friend of Steelers Depot and Pittsburgh sports agent, Ralph Cindrich, offered some pretty stern advice to Ben Roethlisberger in regards to his latest allegations. I really do side with Cindrich on this. How do you feel? Cindrich was also on Sirius NFL radio this morning with Randy Cross and Bob Papa talking about the situation as well. Regarding the Roethlisberger situation, Steelers tackle, Willie Colon, is doing his best Sergeant Schultz impersonation saying that he saw nothing while out with Big Ben on his birthday. Colon's agent, Joe Linta, suggest that Willie's name need not be mentioned Read more [...]

A Crazy Few Days Steeler Nation May Never Forget

If you bleed black and gold, the last few days have been a wild ride. It started with Steeler Nation headed into the yearly free agency drudgery of knowing that free safety Ryan Clark would likely be gone for good and all we would have to show for signings come April would be a Cedric Wilson/Shaun McDonald type player. You know, the same old stuff leading up to April's draft. March is usually an uneventful time for us Steelers fans, but this March is one that will be remembered for both good and bad. Midnight of free agency came and went Thursday with only the big name signings making waves. Ho Read more [...]
The Steelers signed safety Will Allen and wide receiver Arnaz Battle to three-year contracts Monday and this morning Scott Brown has a Q&A with new Steelers on his blog. The most surprising thing about the signing of former Steelers wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, is the fact that he states he will be the #3 receiver and not 2nd year receiver Mike Wallace. I am not so sure that is set in stone, at least not yet. Not only was former Steelers wide receiver Antwaan Randle El signed back to the roster on Monday, the Steelers are looking into bringing back inside linebacker Larry Foote as well Read more [...]

Steelers Resign FA S Ryan Clark

In a surprising twist, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Steelers have re-signed free agent S Ryan Clark. Clark visited the Dolphins on Monday. Clark's contract reportedly is a 4 year deal in the neighborhood of $17 million with at least $5 million of the contract to be paid during the first year.

Steelers Sign WR Antwaan Randle El

An old familiar face is coming back to the Steelers. Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El signed back with the Steelers on Monday evening after being released by the Washington Redskins. Randle El was drafted in the second round (62nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Steelers after playing his college football at Indiana where he was a quarterback. On March 12, 2006, Randle El signed a seven-year, $31 million deal to play for the Washington Redskins after the Super Bowl 40 win against the Seahawks.

The Steelers signed three unrestricted free agents, offensive tackle Jonathan Scott, wide receiver Arnaz Battle and safety Will Allen, to their roster today. Financial terms of all of the contracts were not disclosed, but both Battle and Allen received three year deals. Scott was a fifth-round pick by Detroit in the 2006 draft out of Texas, Scott had six starts in 20 appearances over two seasons with the Lions and was signed to the Bills 53-man roster on December 18, 2008. Scott started eight games for the Bills last season. Battle was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the Read more [...]

TMZ reported this morning that the woman accusing Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault was "hysterical" when she spoke with authorities. This is according to a source at the Milledgeville Police Department. We may not know for a while whether sexual assault charges will be filed against Ben Roethlisberger from his time in Milledgeville, but according to ProFootballTalk.com, Roethlisberger has hired Atlanta defense attorney Ed Garland. Some of Garland’s past clients include Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis and Pacman Jones. That is a list you want no Steelers player associated with. Steelers linebacker Read more [...]

Steelers Resign ERFA LB Patrick Bailey

Steelers Depot has confirmed that the Steelers exclusive rights free agent linebacker Patrick Bailey has been re-signed by the Steelers to a one year contract at the minimum 3rd year player salary of $470,000. Bailey's agent, Dr. D.S.Ping, confirmed this with us via email. Bailey is entering his 3rd season as an undrafted free agent out of Duke. He was active for all 16 games for the Steelers in 2009 and recorded 13 tackles on special teams.

Yesterday, Dan Gigler of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette posted some final thoughts and videos on free agents Ryan Clark, Willie Parker and DeShea Townsend. All three are now considered former Steelers and are free to sign elsewhere Speaking of Willie, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already shown interest in Parker. It is still early in the game, but Tampa surely could be one of the few final destinations for FWP. The Steelers are lining up a few free agent visitors of their own as 49ers free agent wide receiver Arnaz Battle is coming in for a visit this weekend to Pittsburgh. Amazon.com Read more [...]
If you missed the official news from the last few days on the Steelers restricted free agents, Steelers.com has all of the info on the tendering of Willie Colon, William Gay, Daniel Sepulveda and Matt Spaeth. The only player we do not have clarification on yet is exclusive rights free agent Patrick Bailey. Do not stay up late tonight says Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert. Colbert has said it will "be business as usual" for the Steelers when the new NFL year starts Friday. I doubt there will be a huge flurry league wide anyways. Teams will be much more calculated with the Read more [...]

Steelers 2010 Salary Cap & State Of The Roster

It is that time of year again. All of the tenders and tags have been assigned and at midnight Thursday, free agency begins for the NFL. It is time for a look at the 2010 roster of players under contract or tender offer and a look at the projected 2010 Steelers salary cap numbers. At this time, there will be no salary cap for the 2010 season, but the Steelers have said regardless that they intend to treat the season as if there were one in place. The only questionable player below is Patrick Bailey, as he was an exclusive rights free agent and no word has come out about his status. I do however Read more [...]

The Steelers tendered two more restricted free agents on Wednesday as they gave both cornerback William Gay and tight end Matt Spaeth the lowest tenders of $1,101,000 for 2010. Free agency begins midnight Thursday and guard Darnell Stapleton and running back back Carey Davis will become unrestricted free agents at that time. Both are not expected to receive tender offers from the Steelers. No word yet on exclusive rights free agent Patrick Bailey, but all signs are pointing to him being retained at a third year players salary.

Since being offered the second-highest tender to restricted free agent, the agent for Steelers right tackle Willie Colon, is posturing for a team to trade for or sign Colon away at a higher price tag than the tender of $2.521 million. You can't blame Joe Linta for trying, it is his job, but this is not likely to happen. Not much is going on with free agent safety Ryan Clark with the clock ticking down. Clark's agent, Joel Turner, told National Football Post that, "Right now, communication is open. We've agreed to stay in touch. Neither party has shut the door." Sounds like the Steelers think Read more [...]

The Steelers have tendered starting tackle Willie Colon and punter Daniel Sepulveda one-year contract offers on Tuesday. The amount tendered to Colon is $2,521,000 one year contract and allows the Steelers the chance to match another offer made to Colon by another team or receive a first-round 2010 draft pick. Punter Daniel Sepulveda received a one year tender of $1,101,000 and the chance to match any offer made to Sepulveda by another team. The Steelers have until Thursday to tender one-year contracts to their other restricted free agents if they so decide.

Mike Logan interviewed Steelers free agent free safety Ryan Clark yesterday on 1250 ESPN Pittsburgh radio. You can listen to the interview below. Clark claimed no contract offer has been made as of yet. Clark wants to return from the sounds of things, but also seems to have a bad taste in his mouth. Adam Caplan reported yesterday that the Steelers will not be making a restricted free agent tender offer to guard Darnell Stapleton. The Steelers have until Thursday to tender their restricted free agents and it is believed that everyone except Stapleton and Carey Davis will be tendered. Happy Read more [...]
Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has caught the Steelers eye as expected. He could be a guy the Steelers have an eye on in round one. Mike Bires does not think the new contract that head coach Mike Tomlin gets over the next few weeks will come close to what ex-Steelers and current Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt just received. Remember Mike Kudla? He was once with the Steelers. Mike Sando of ESPN.com analyzed the 25 best combine performers in six key categories since 2000. The performances show how important and unimportant raw ability and stats can be. Rich Eisen Read more [...]
Unrestricted free agent Ryan Clark was not tagged yesterday, but the Steelers are working on getting him signed still if the numbers are right. Joel Turner, Clark's agent, claims Clark is offering a hometown discount of sorts to stay in Pittsburgh. The Texans and the Falcons had a coin flip this morning to decide who would pick after the Steelers in round 1. The Falcons won and will pick 19th, while the Texans will pick 20th in the first round. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette speculates that despite signing Casey Hampton to a new deal, the Steelers still could pick a nose tackle Read more [...]
