Steelers Sign CB Justin King On Tuesday

The injuries in the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary forced the team, to make a roster move on Tuesday as veteran cornerback Justin King was signed to the 53 man roster. King, a Penn State product, had worked out for the Steelers a few weeks ago after Ike Taylor suffered his right ankle injury. King was originally drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the fourth round of the 2008 draft and played for the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season prior to his release. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has been reinstated to the team on Monday following his one week suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Upon his reinstatement the team asked for and received a 24 hour roster exemption which means that they now have until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday to make a corresponding roster move to make room for him. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that they have signed back wide receivers David Gilreath and Derek Moye to practice squad along with cornerback Isaiah Green. Wide receiver Bert Reed was released to make room. The team had two open spots on the practice squad after cornerback Josh Victorian was promoted this past Saturday and running back Baron Batch was promoted on Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Steelers now have quarterback Ben Roethlisberger back somewhat healthy and with cornerback Ike Taylor now sidelined indefinitely with an ankle injury, the team decided to waive quarterback Brian Hoyer on Saturday and promote cornerback Josh Victorian from the practice squad to take his spot on the 53 man roster. The Pittsburgh Steelers made a practice squad roster move on Tuesday as it was announced that cornerback Josh Victorian has been brought back and that wide receiver Derrick Moye was released to make room for him. The Steelers needed Victorian back because the fractured ankle suffered by Ike Taylor early in the win over the Baltimore Ravens has thinned the depth. In addition to those signings, Bob Labriola now reports that former FSU wide receiver Bert Reed has also been signed to the practice squad and to make room for him cornerback Josh Victorian was released. On Tuesday the Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed Gilreath off waivers and signed him to their 53 man roster. The Pittsburgh Steelers made a couple of roster moves on Monday as tackle Marcus Gilbert has been placed on injured reserve with his ankle injury. Wide receiver David Gilreath was also waived. The Steelers filled those two spots by activating rookie guard David DeCastro from the Reserve/Injured; Designated to Return List and promoting guard/center John Malecki to from the practice squad. The Pittsburgh Steelers have one less wide receiver on their practice squad right now as the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Toney Clemons to their 53 man roster today. Clemons was drafted by the Steelers as their first of four seventh-round picks (231st overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Colorado. The rookie registered just one catch for 14 yards during the preseason for the Steelers in limited action after having a hard time catching the ball during training camp. On Tuesday the Pittsburgh Steelers waived linebacker Marshall McFadden and running back Baron Batch to make room on the 53 man roster for wide receiver Plaxico Burress and quarterback Brian Hoyer. On Wednesday both McFadden and Batch cleared waivers and were signed to the practice squad. Steelers Waive RB Baron Batch & LB Marshall McFadden

The decision has been made. The Pittsburgh Steelers officially announced on Tuesday that they have waived linebacker Marshall McFadden and running back Baron Batch to make room for wide receiver Plaxico Burress and quarterback Brian Hoyer, who were both signed to the 53 man roster after working out for the team Tuesday morning. McFadden had been promoted to the 53 man roster last week after Chris Carter was placed on injured reserve and Stevenson Sylvester was down with a hamstring injury. As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Thursday that they have promoted linebacker Marshall McFadden from the practice squad to the 53 man roster and placed linebacker Chris Carter on the injured reserve list with an abdominal injury. Steelers Sign NT Alameda Ta’amu To The Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday that they re-signed rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu to the practice squad. Ta'amu had been released from the 53-man roster on Monday when the Steelers promoted wide receiver David Gilreath from the practice squad because of the ankle injury to wide receiver Antonio Brown. Ta'amu cleared the 24 hour waiver period on Tuesday at 4 p.m. eastern and was then a free agent. The Pittsburgh Steelers made a practice squad roster move on Friday as guard Jacques McClendon was released and safety Damon Cromartie-Smith was signed back after clearing waivers.

Cromartie-Smith had been waived late Tuesday so that nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu could be added back to the 53 man roster from the suspended list.

McClendon had been signed to the practice squad a few weeks ago after center Maurkice Pouncey sprained his knee against the Tennessee Titans.

Steelers Waive Safety Damon Cromartie-Smith On Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers waived safety Damon Cromartie-Smith on Wednesday to get back down to the league mandated 53 number. The Steelers were granted a 48 hour roster exemption on Monday when they reinstated rookie nose tackle Alameda Ta'amu from the suspended following his two week suspension.
