Steelers President Art Rooney II said the team would support linebacker James Harrison in the appeal of his $75,000 fine. Rooney told the paper that he thinks Harrison's play against Massaquoi was a "football play;" and while he understands the league's concern that Harrison seemed to be launching himself, he thought the play was borderline.
Steelers running back Isaac Redman is in line for more carries starting Sunday in Miami and will be used as the primary runner late in games to ease the workload of starter Rashard Mendenhall.

Charlie Batch seems to be mentoring OSU quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Batch's brother married Pryor's cousin. The two had a relationship well before Pryor was the top recruit and player in the country.
The NFL and its players' union discussed a proposal to change to an 18-game regular season during a bargaining session Tuesday. Both sides look forward to continuing these discussions and reaching a new collective bargaining agreement soon according to reports. Bob Labriola and Mike Prisuta are back with another Agree to Disagree on Steelers.com. In the latest Season Outlook episode they discuss AFC North playoff teams, and if there will be a repeat champion in the NFL this year.
Mike Bires writes that cornerback Keenan Lewis will bounce back from his Denver debacle. Lewis says he will still be the same aggressive, physical player he's been all preseason when he plays tonight, but promises to be smarter when it comes to hitting receivers near the sideline. Lewis likely will be the second left corner in behind William Gay.

There is a lull in the mini camps right now, but Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times has a look at the running back unit where youth is running ramp-it. Running backs coach Kirby Wilson says the group is the youngest that he has had his 13 seasons in the NFL.
Steelers kicker Jeff Reed joined John Seibel on the Seibel and Starkey show on Friday and talks about the Big 12, his next 7 weeks of training and his recent clearing of charges after finishing 40 hours of community service. Reed says his contract negotiations are at a standstill right now.

Wow! We didn't know Big Ben read our blog, but after suggesting that Ben Roethlisberger cut his hair yesterday morning, he showed up at the meeting with the Commissioner with a nice and fresh, high and tight cut. It is a slow step in the right direction. Now Ben will wait and see what both Goodell and Art II decide as far as punishment goes.
The rumor that the Rams are trying to trade two 1st rounders for Ben has not been substantiated, but it is quite an entertaining offer. In my opinion though, you would still have to pay high dollar for 4 1st rounders in 2 years with one being a quarterback.

The mother of Steelers linebacker James Harrison is expected in court on Monday. She is one of three people charged in connection with the brawl at a VFW Hall in Akron, Ohio, during the Steelers game with the Cleveland Browns in December.
Speaking of James Harrison, John Harris reports that Harrison's role changed somewhat in 2009, as he became more responsible for dropping into pass coverage. That resulted in fewer opportunities for him to pass rush. Couple that with un called holding calls and a late season injury, could explain his drop in numbers.

The Steelers debuted a 23-minute highlight film chronicling the 2008 season on Friday at the East Club Lounge at Heinz Field. The film was produced by John Weiss of NFL Films and entitled: "Brothers and Champions: The Story of the 2008 Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers". The film was narrated by Larry Richert of KDKA radio.
Hard to believe that Browns center Hank Fraley was once a Steeler. He is currently passing on his wisdom to rookie Alex Mack and he credits former Steeler center, Dermontti Dawson, for guidance when he was a rookie.
