The Steelers beat the New York Giants 24-17 in the 2nd preseason game of the 2010 season. Below are my notes and nuggets I kept on the game along with my observations. I have much more coming on this game and am working through the night. These are initial reactions of mine as I am about to watch the game a second time and begin working up tape selections. Below are the notes I compiled throughout the game.
The team overall looked a little sluggish getting started. Camp finally breaking and traveling did not help.
Let us hope Ike Taylor got that out of his system. Any how I gave Taylor the Read more [...]

Steelers beat writer Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will start tonight in the second preseason game versus the Giants and New York and may play two series depending on how long the first series goes. Overall he is expected to play 12-15 snaps. Byron Leftwich is slated to follow Roethlisberger and work with the first team unit and Dennis Dixon will play most of the second half according to reports. Read more [...]
Saturday the Steelers will travel to New York to play the Giants in the second preseason game of the 2010 season. Per my normal routine, I have listed below 10 things to look for Saturday heading into the game.
Robo Kickoff Guy Watch #2? - Last week we were teased that Daniel Sepulveda could likely be allowed to kickoff against the Lions. It did not happen and as we showed on video this past week, nothing has changed with Jeff Reed and his kickoffs. This could be a huge step forward with special teams if Sepulveda can nail a few. Let's hope he gets quite a few chances to show what he has on Read more [...]
On Thursday evening, Steelers free safety Ryan Clark tweeted, "Cant wait to get out there on Sat gonna be a nice challenge. Then its back to Denver let the drama begin". The drama Clark is alluding to is the media barrage of questions he faces every time a trip to the Mile High City is about to take place. I am guilty of perhaps invoking the Tweet Thursday by Clark, but it is a question that needs to be asked.
Clark traveled to Denver with the team last year in week 9, but head coach Mike Tomlin chose to hold him out and said after the 28-10 win that he didn't want to risk Clark's health or Read more [...]
I made a comment in my Lions post game game notes that Steelers left tackle Tony Hills showed up on a bad ankle and played well at left tackle. If you judge the entire 28 or so snaps on tape from Saturday, you would grade it as ok or played well, too. The problem is that the further along in the game he played the lesser the competition and the better he played. Unfortunately though, that does not happen during a real NFL game. In the video below I analyzed his first 6 plays in the game. If you look at all six plays as a whole, you will see that really only the last play, the Isaac Redman touchdown Read more [...]
